2024 Market Manager (part-time)

The Market Manager, under general direction from the Board, is responsible for the successful day-to-day operations of the market.  This job will require approximately twelve hours/week ($20/hr) with the bulk of the time from June-October.  It is expected that the Manager will be in attendance on every market day, with other hours flexible as required throughout the week. Applications are due by May 20th 2024.

Dates and Times:

  • Market Timing: June 18, 2024 to October 1, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm from June 20, 2023 through Labor Day and 3pm to 6pm from Labor day to October 1, 2024.

  • The Market Manager is expected to be on-site at every market starting two hours before the start of the market until approximately an hour after the close of the market.  

  • Additional hours budgeted for off-site week-to-week management of regular season market

Major Responsibilities: (12 hours per week)

1. Market Management

The Market Manager serves as the face of the MWVFM on market days,  coordinating and overseeing market operations. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Oversee market set-up and take-down, which includes directing vendors to their assigned set-up locations, answering questions and problem-solving as needed. 

  • Staff the MWVFM Information Table, helping customers exchange SNAP/EBT dollars or credit card sales for MWVFM tokens

  • Oversee tracking and distribution of EBT/SNAP/Granite State Market Match tokens and credit card tokens and the related reimbursements due to farmers who accept these tokens.

  • Work to resolve conflicts or problems that may arise

  • Assist with the execution and planning of market events including, but not limited to Kids’ Day the Health & Wellness Expo, and any theme days that the market hosts.

2. Farmer and Vendor Relations

  • Develop and manage relationships with farmers and vendors, ensuring timely

communications and resolution of issues or problems

  • Monitor farmer/vendor compliance to market rules and agreements

  • Provide orientation and training to new vendors

3. Organization & Finance Management (with Board President and Treasurer)

  • Attend Board meetings during the market season to provide input on weekly activities 

  • Work with the treasurer on cash-out from merchandise sales and reconciliation of sales/cash

  • Monitor the market email account and communications as needed

  • Update spreadsheets & vendor map to track applicants and vendors

  • Communicate with musicians, non-profits, and other market participants

4. Additional Duties (Depending on Skill Level & Comfortability)

  • Manage consistent posting on Market Social Media platforms. (Primarily Instagram)

  • Update Squarespace Website as needed.

  • Capture photos during each market for promotion on Social Media

  • Outreach to local vendors for partnerships 

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the importance of local farms and farmers’ markets

  • Management experience, including working with multiple constituencies/stakeholders

  • Experience in retail and/or other customer service experience preferred

  • Ability to develop good team relationships with board, farmers and vendors and work well with the public

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail

  • Proficiency using Google Drive/documents, spreadsheets, etc.

  • Availability during market hours

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
